Extinct Dire Wolf brought back to Life

Scientists have made history by bringing back the dire wolf, an apex predator that went extinct over 10,000 years ago. Using ancient DNA found in fossils, researchers at Colossal Biosciences decoded the dire wolf genome and edited gray wolf DNA to match it—implanting the embryos into domestic dogs. The result? Two healthy pups named Romulus and Remus, now six months old and over four feet long. While alive and thriving, these recreated dire wolves are anything but tame, showing cold and cautious behavior, even toward their caretakers. Some hail it as a breakthrough in conservation, while others warn of the ethical and ecological risks of de-extinction.
