We would like to pay tribute to the man who single-handedly built the international reputation of the "Concertgebouworkest Amsterdam", which he conducted for 50 years (1895-1945): Willem (Josef) Mengelberg. This complete set of Beethoven's symphonies conducted by this illustrious conductor is legendary and deserved to be highlighted. Mengelberg immediately strikes us with his authority and the overwhelming tension and energy of his conducting, which is identical from the first bar of Opus 21 to the last bar of Opus 125. This is all the more remarkable as the music breathes in spite of everything. His recordings are live public concerts. This new mastering is no miracle for 80-year-old recordings. However, it does allow a better appreciation of this historical document, which continues to grow in value in terms of authenticity in an increasingly materialistic and superficial society.
