We’re excited to give you a sneak peek into our latest development experiments using JavaScript inside Articulate Storyline 360! 🧩

This time, we’ve been exploring creative ways to build line tracing interactions—ideal for touchscreens and mobile-first design—and we’ve pushed the capabilities of Storyline’s JavaScript API further than ever before.

The video showcases five unique demo interactions, each with a different twist on the concept of line tracing:

Demo 1 lays the groundwork for a simple free-draw line between two points, which sparked the idea for a full Skwids-style game prototype.

Demo 2 removes constraints altogether, allowing users to drag a line shape freely around the screen, opening up plenty of creative possibilities.

Demo 3 introduces precision tracing, where learners must stay close to a defined path or receive immediate feedback and a reset—great for training accuracy and control.

Demo 4 challenges the user to follow a curved path, and shows how we can code in cornering logic—useful for letter tracing and shape recognition activities.

Demo 5 presents a two-part corner tracing task (like the letter V) completed in a single movement, enhancing the fluidity of interaction on mobile devices.

These concepts are not just for show—we’re actively using this type of interactivity in ongoing client work to develop game-like learning experiences tailored for mobile devices.
