Installing Stereo Speakers in a 1st Series Chevy Pickup - Crank it up!

1947-1953 Chevy Pickups weren't known for their radios. The radios and dash were cool looking but didn't sound all that great. And, with only a single speaker in the middle of the dash, you weren't getting much volume out of it. Sure, these trucks were meant to be work vehicles that most likely didn't travel long distances, and that definitely didn't go all that fast (limiting road noise). If you have a first series truck that goes faster than 55MPH, or you just want to have better sounding music in the cab, I'll show you how to achieve that.

You can get an aftermarket receiver that fits right into the stock location, and even looks very similar to a stock radio. Most new radios have multiple inputs and can connect to multiple speakers. In this video I show the aftermarket Retrosound radio that we installed, and what it sounds like when only connected to the single dash speaker, as well as then connected to an amp and two rear speakers. What a difference! With the new setup I can drive on the highway with the windows down and still hear the radio perfectly.

It was a fairly easy install as well. If you already have an aftermarket radio installed, you'll simply need: an amp, a pair of speakers, 14-16ga wire and some connectors.

We're all set now for the 2021 Hot Rod Power Tour!
