S02 EP 24 Navel Piercing

Pierced through the natural ridge/lobe at the top of the navel
The most common jewelry is a curved barbell but can be done with a ring or circular barbell.

History:
It is believed that Egyptian Pharaohs pierced the navel as a sign of the transition from life to eternity. Also, it has been said that it was a sing of Egyptian aristocrats and depicted their rank in society.

Doug Malloy may be the source of this and thus it may be a myth along with many of the “piercing histories” spread by Jim Ward, Malloy, and Gauntlet.

The piercing was developed at Gauntlet

Gained popularity and launched Body Piercing into the mainstream in the Aerosmith 1993 video for the song “Cryin’” that showed Alicia Silverstone getting her navel pierced by Paul King. Though many claim that it was Model Christy Turlinton that popularized the piercing in 1993.
