How to test for exhausted fixer
Part of the darkroom how to series I show you how to easily and quickly test whether your fixer is exhausted or reaching capacity.
Place a strip of undeveloped film in a container and add your fixer. The film will go from opaque to completely clear, the time it takes for this to take place is a good gauge as to the health of your fixer. Take note of the time and double it for proper fixing. I always use 3 minutes as a good base line but recommend 5 minutes.
If your fixer is taking longer than usual to clear the snip test use caution with important work.
