UNEMPLOYMENT: Excessive Earnings | What’s The Most You Can Make
In this video, I'll cover:
The maximum amount you can earn and still get unemployment benefits from the California EDD
How much you can make before you get the excessive earnings message when you certify for unemployment benefits
Why your might get the excessive earnings message even if your hours have been reduced, you're working less hours or your wages are less than they were before the pandemic
How to calculate how much you can earn and still qualify for unemployment benefits in California and the extra $600 from the CARES Act
And address the question of can I work part time on unemployment
The answer is it's different for everyone based on the base amount of California EDD unemployment benefits you qualify for.
I was wrong! I thought as long as your hours, wages, salaries or shifts were reduced at all, that you would qualify for unemployment, that is not correct!
If you watch the video to the end, there on instructions on what information to provide to me in the comments so that I will do the calculation for you as to the maximum amount you can earn and still get some unemployment benefits. (Keep in mind, I'm not an expert and the amount I come up should be verified and double checked for accuracy).
The amount you can earn is based on your gross earnings: before taxes, 401K contributions and any amount you pay for health benefits unless you are receiving PUA unemployment benfits (Pandemic Unemployment Assistance) then you may use your net income.
That information is based on this video from the EDD UI Online:
