🛶 Canoeing the wild Nahanni River

Note: You might also enjoy my similar film about rafting down the remote and wild Alsek River (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=99TjGcOHg_8).

This is a video of a 13 day canoe trip down the wild South Nahanni River in the Northwest Territories of Canada. The South Nahanni River is one of the prime wilderness rivers in Canada. There are few traces of civilization along the river including zero light pollution, making for potentially excellent northern light viewing conditions. Fortunately during this canoe trip, we were able to view several Northern Light displays.

From Ft. Simpson, we flew by bush plane to a gravel bar on the Nahanni River named the Bunny Bar where our canoe trip started. From there it was down river to Virginia Falls where we portaged around the falls before canoeing through four mighty canyons and finishing our canoeing at Nahanni Butte.

In total, we canoed down the Nahanni River for some 330 kilometers.
