Tesla Model 3 Road Trip [Up to 7700 Ft & Down to -10°C]

All the highlights from our 5900 km USA Tesla Model 3 road trip! This is our fist long distance EV road trip abroad, so we're super excited to share our whole trip experience with you!

As we're from Germany, we couldn't bring our own Model 3 performance to the US for this trip. Luckily, we found a good deal on Turo for renting a white Tesla Model 3 in Las Vegas. Hence our first extensive electric car road trip started in Las Vegas and within 3 weeks, we drove through the states of Nevada, California, Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado and Utah!

One of our major goals for this Tesla Model 3 road trip experience video is to show you that electric cars, of course especially Tesla cars thanks to the supercharger network, won't cause any inconvenience even for long distance travel outside large cities. Hence we not only went to the classic Tesla road trip California destinations like San Francisco or Los Angeles, but also remote national parks and dessert areas such as Death Valley, Monument Valley and Grand Canyon.

Furthermore, we didn't hesitate to bring our Model 3 to high elevations. So for example we went to Santa Fe, which is the highest state capital in the US, and also some mountain trail heads in Yosemite for hiking. Another difficulty for travelling in an electric car, which comes along with high elevations, is of course the massive temperature drop. Admittedly, the low temperature did have a significant impact on our energy efficiency and also the charging time at Tesla supercharger. But with a bit planning in advance, you don't have to worry about range issues.

The overall energy efficiency of our first Tesla Model 3 long distance travel was an amazing 145 Wh/km, so roughly 10% lower energy consumption as compared to our performance model back home! Moreover, we found out that the Tesla autopilot is much more sophisticated and offers more functions in the US than in Germany. The autopilot was extremely helpful for longer highway driving sections, and could even handle some curvy roads in the mountains.
