4 simple steps to fixing ID theft credit report problems
http://www.alabamaconsumer.com/2015/04/4-simple-steps-to-fixing-your-id-theft-credit-report-problems/
This video explains four simple steps to fixing ID theft report problems.
First, fill out ID theft affidavit. Sworn statement that says you did not take out the account or have someone else open the account.
Second, get a police report. Make it easy on the police to document what the bogus account is.
Third, send a dispute letter to the credit reporting agencies (and the furnisher -- creditor or collector -- who has the bogus info) by certified mail. Attach the ID theft affidavit and police report. ID yourself and the account and ask that it be deleted. Usually enclose driver's license and a recent utility bill or bank statement. Keep a signed copy.
Fourth, if the results of the investigation show the ID theft is fixed, then great. If the bogus account stays on there, then often the appropriate response is to sue under the FCRA (Fair Credit Reporting Act) for money damages. This normally results in the bogus account being removed very quickly.
