More thoughts on the project: Wow, this was a fun one y’all. We knew we wanted to power carve a bench and originally thought we would sculpt it into an interesting shape. However, after testing the TURBO Plane on some scrap wood and seeing the texture it left, we knew we wanted a textured wood look. With the different colored grain of the pecan wood under the power carved texture, it kinda looked like rain causing ripples in water, hence the name Ripple Bench. We feel weird about naming our bench…haha.

We were pretty new to power carving before this project and it was surprisingly easy to learn. The biggest takeaways: cut so that the blade carves with the grain, not against it, and have a light hand rather than a heavy hand. Also, practice! It’s very easy to maneuver once you practice a little bit and figure out what result you want.

This bench is the biggest project we’ve built so far, and that’s really exciting! Now we want to do more larger furniture pieces. We just love how it turned out - it’s modern and organic at the same time. And we can’t help but touch it every time we walk by haha.
