Hi, I'm Mayor Michelle J. Gomez, representing the wonderful City of Tamarac.
We have many great events coming up this October to help keep you active and festive.

With October being Breast Cancer Awareness month, I highly encourage you to get a breast exam from your doctor. Yes, that goes for both MEN and WOMEN! Please consult with your doctor or health care provider for your mammogram location near you. Many are free year-round. For a list of local places offering free screenings, please visit www.FreeMammograms.org.
We're honoring all fallen firefighters who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. Now Through October 3rd, Fire Station 15 will be illuminated in red throughout the night, in tribute to our nation’s fallen fire fighters and their families.

National Customer Service Week is celebrated annually during the first full week of October. That’s a time when our nation’s customer service professionals in various disciplines are celebrated for their important and meaningful work. But in Tamarac’s twist on the occasion, our Parks and Recreation Department wants to thank you – our customers – for your business. October 4th through 8th you’re invited to join us for 9:30 AM – 6:30 PM at Tamarac Community Center, from 10 AM to 6 PM at Tamarac Park and at Caporella Aquatic & Wellness Center, between 8 AM and 4 PM -- for light refreshments and facility tours to show our gratitude.

As Hispanic Heritage Month comes to a close, we are delighted to bring a fun-filled celebration of the Hispanic and Latino cultures to our community. Tuesday, October 12, from 9 AM – 2 PM, join us at Tamarac Community Center for an array of activities with a Latin flare. You don’t want to miss this day of music, fitness, games, food and giveaways. And it’s completely free. See you there!

So, are you ready to Move With The Mayor? Please join me for this month’s free Move With The Mayor socially distant group fitness classes. We will enjoy hi-low aerobics starting at 4pm on Saturday, October 9th at the Tamarac Sports Complex. We’ll meet again the following week at the Caporella Aquatic Center Pavilion for an hour long jazzercise class starting at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, October 15th.

Let’s improve our overall health, reduce the risk of chronic diseases, and improve our energy levels together!

Don't miss the City's Community Garage Sale. This season's Garage Sale will take place on October 16th, from 7:30 am to noon at Tamarac Park. Visit Tamarac Park or the Community Center to register. This event always sells out, so please act fast.

So, who's ready for Halloween!?
Come out to the Tamarac Sports Complex on Friday, October 22nd, from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m., for the Drive-Thru Halloween Haunt event! Drive through the decorated parking lot while enjoying music and spooky characters. Don't forget to collect your goodie bag of treats and crafts before you leave.

The Halloween festivities continue! Don't miss the Great Pumpkin Splash on Saturday, October 23rd, from 10:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. at the Caporella Aquatic Center. Come out and enjoy a day at the pool, filled with fun, games and music. Admission is $5.00 per person.

Anyone up for a game of chess?
Join me and other elected officials from Broward County at the Mayors’ Chess Challenge from 10:00 a.m. – noon, Saturday, October 30th, at the Tamarac Community Center. Players of all ages and skill levels are welcome at this free event.

And, see your government in action by attending Commission meetings. The October Commission Meetings will take place at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 13th and the 27th. All meetings are held at City Hall. If you can’t make it in person, you can watch on demand at Tamarac.org or on Facebook Live.
