As I'm doing this video there has been a hedge fund blow-up. I have seen thousands of trading strategies over the years and there are a handful you look at and think they are really great but on further inspection you realise they are a ticking time-bond. One strategy I saw was a mean reversion strategy; this guy had an almost 95% hit rate - he was scaling in small size as the market went against him. That position added up and became big very quickly. Of course the advantage is that he was bringing his average up so he could exit for a small profit as soon as the market reversed direction. This works until the one trade where it doesn't work. As such there was hidden risk in this strategy. There was no exit plan when the trade didn't go his way. Other failing strategies I've seen involved selling call options or trading in big size in an illiquid market. Another one I saw involved commodities that go limit up or limit down. The key is if you're trading any market; think about the worst thing that could happen.
