Practical Kata Bunkai: Kanku-Sho / Kosokun-Sho
http://www.iainabernethy.co.uk/
This video shows bunkai and a two-person bunkai drill for the first third of Kanku-Sho / Kosokun-Sho kata. The video is a short summation of the bunkai covered in one part of a seminar in Nuremburg in October 2015. It is not an instructional video and a full weekend of training can’t be captured a five minute video such as this.
At the seminar we covered bunkai for the entire kata, and discussed the nature of the kata and the wider training methodology of which this drill should be part. For ease of practise we studied the bunkai of the kata in the form of a two-person drill which follows the order of the kata. However, it is vital to understand that the methods can obviously be applied in any order (as the situation dictates) and the drill is not intended to be an “as is” combination.
While the seminar covered the full kata, it is just the summation of the first third of the kata which is shared here. As with all martial arts techniques, what is shown is potentially dangerous and should only be practised under the supervision of a suitably qualified and experienced person.
All the best,
Iain
