Algebra Problem 4 | Linear Equations | SAT Math Practice

Linear Equations - High School Math Question for Grade 8 (Pre-Algebra and Algebra 1).

Given the following equation, solve for x:
4(2x - 3) = 3(x + 15) + 1

Distribute the terms:
8x - 12 = 3x + 45 + 1

Same as:
8x - 12 = 3x + 46

Subtract 3x from both sides:
5x - 12 = 46

Add 12 to both sides:
5x = 46 + 12

This simplifies to:
5x = 58

Divide both sides by 5:
5x / 5 = 58 / 5

Final answer:
x = 58 / 5
