Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay climb Everest - 1953 archive video

Archive newsreel footage reports how New Zealander Edmund Hillary and Nepali climber Tenzing Norgay became the first people to climb to the summit of Mount Everest. Their achievement came two days after a British expedition, led by John Hunt, came within 100 metres (330ft) of the summit. On Wednesday 29 May it will be the 60th anniversary of Hillary and Tenzing's conquest of the world's tallest mountain.
