Repertoire: Tippett's Lush and Lyrical Piano Concerto
Once of the most remarkable of 20th century works works for piano and orchestra, Tippett's Piano Concerto treats the instrument in a songful and lyrical manner, somewhat akin to what we find in Beethoven's Fourth Concerto, but in a wholly modern way. The use of the celesta in dialogue with the solo adds a magical atmosphere to the piece, and the result is as distinctive and personal as any work of its kind.
