Structured Text Syntax for Beginners (Studio 5000)

Structured Text (ST) is a powerful PLC programming language in Rockwell Automation’s Studio 5000 — but for many beginners, syntax errors are where everything starts to get confusing.

In this video, we build Structured Text from the ground up, following the official Rockwell Automation programming model and explaining it in a clear, beginner-friendly way.

In this video, you’ll learn:

Where Structured Text lives in Studio 5000

How to create a new Structured Text routine

Structured Text syntax rules (assignments, expressions, operators)

Why every line must end with a semicolon

The critical difference between functions and instructions

IF statements, CASE logic, loops, and comments

How Structured Text code actually flows during execution

📄 Easy-to-follow Structured Text reference (FREE)
To make learning easier, I’ve created a simple Google Docs reference that summarizes the Structured Text syntax covered in this video.
Use it as a cheat sheet while practicing in Studio 5000.
