A Tribute to Harold (Hal) Prince, director of "The Phantom of the Opera."

Musical theatre as we know it would not exist if not for the talent and brilliance of director and producer Hal Prince. Anyone who loves musicals owes an enormous debt of gratitude to this marvelous man.

His genius was no better exhibited than as the original director of Andrew Lloyd Webber's 1986 musical "The Phantom of the Opera", guiding the cast and shaping the show into the magical production we know today. He continued to refine and finesse the show, even 30 years after it first opened, checking in regularly with stage and touring companies to make sure that the same standards he had established in 1986 were on display every night for new audiences.

What follows is a compilation of clips of the man in his own words, as well as behind-the-scenes rehearsal footage of him directing original cast members Michael Crawford and Sarah Brightman.
