Speech:

Verse 1:
At the top of the old gallows
Where the crows are silent,
A hanged man danced in the summer
When the immense moon shone.
They say she loved him, once upon a time,
When he was a man of faith —
But betrayal was the vice
That she punishes in her turmoil.

Verse 2:
Every night, she descends,
Pale, dressed in a veil of bones,
And the hanged man, bleeding,
Returns to dance beneath the scourges.
Their hands brush weightlessly,
Their gazes shine with a complaint,
And love, despite the laws,
Is written in a holy embrace.
Verse 3:
A monk saw this strange wedding
And wanted to break the alliance,
But the hanged man exchanged
His rope for absence.
Since then, the monk has been hanged,
And the former lover rests —
But the moon, sad and naked,
Still dances, gloomy and morose.

Verse 4:
The elders say in the evening
That one must never swear
Love beyond the dark,
For the moon can cry.
And those who dream too high
Can dance without forgiveness
At the end of a restless thread
Strung by abandonment.

Single chorus:
The moon marries the dead — but never the same body twice.
