Why Mean Girls Failed Where Mean Girls Succeeded (a direct comparison)

Mean girls 2024 feels like a high school reenactment of a cult classic that’s been watered down to offend the least number of people possible. Unsuccessfully, mind you, because this movie thoroughly hurt my feelings. This awfully paced, terribly acted, frankensteins monster of a film is a lobotomised impersonation of the flick it shares a title with. Some scenes are a beat for beat retred of the og with the perceived rough edges insultingly filed down as not to harm your modern sensibilities - those are bearable. It’s the original content that truly solidifies rude girls as a catastrophe of uncreative freedom.
