Homemade Dry-Roasted Peanuts: The Snack You Didn’t Know You Needed

There were these classic, no-fuss snack pairings my mum swore by—peanuts with banana, cashews with green grapes, walnuts with apples. Like wine and cheese, but simpler, healthier, and something she casually snuck into our habits. Roasted peanuts were a family favourite. But I never actually made them myself until recently.

Shop-bought roasted peanuts? Sneakily sweet. Turns out, even the “plain” ones often have added sugar (why?). So, we did the obvious thing—bought raw peanuts, roasted them ourselves, and now we always have a stash of actually plain, actually good peanuts on hand.

Because here’s the thing: having low-effort, easy-to-make snacks around is key. A handful of these? Instant energy boost. Perfect when you walk in the door starving but dinner’s still 30 minutes away. Good fats, B vitamins, antioxidants. They keep your heart happy, your stomach full, and your energy steady. Bonus points if you eat them with jaggery or banana. But even on their own? A+ snacking.

How to make them:
1. Toss raw peanuts into a dry pan.
2. Medium heat. Stir occasionally.
3. 10 minutes later—golden, toasty, perfect.
4. Let cool. Store in a dry jar.
5. Snack at will.
