(HD) Trainz at Gatwick Airport (Trz12)

Now available in 1080p HD!

In my latest addition to the 'Trainz around Britain' series, we once again visit the Southern Region, and Gatwick Airport. Located 26 miles south of London, Gatwick Airport is Britain's 2nd busiest airport, mainly being used by charter and low cost airlines as an alternative to Heathrow, which is more based around the national carrier British Airways. The station at Gatwick Airport itself is located next to the original South Terminal on the London to Brighton Mainline and sees regular services to London Victoria. Opened as Gatwick in 1891, it later became the main station for Gatwick Racecourse and later Gatwick Airport after a major rebuild in 1958.

This representation shows the route in May 1994. The wheels of privatisation were indeed in motion, but little had come to fruition in terms of liveries or operators. Network SouthEast was still dominant on the route as well as the very popular slam-door stock. Services included are:

- Fast services between Brighton and London - Class 421 4-CIG's and 423 4-VEP's
- Semi-fast services between Brighton and London - 4-CIG's and 4-VEP's
- InterCIty services between Brighton and Manchester Piccadilly - IC Class 47's
- Gatwick Express services from London Victoria - Class 73's and 488/489 stock
- Thameslink services between Bedford and Brighton - Class 319's
- A light engine movement between Stewart's Lane and Portsmouth
- The Venice-Simplon Orient Express running an excursion between Eastbourne and London Victoria - Unrebuilt Battle of Britain Class 34067 'Tangmere'

...also, be sure to keep an eye out for the occasional plane landing on Runway 26L!

Enjoy!
