Chesapeake & Ohio no. 2716 Under Steam in 1996

Between 1994 and 1996, the Fort Wayne Railroad Historical Society leased Chesapeake & Ohio steam locomotive no. 2716 from the Kentucky Railway Museum. Following a two-year restoration, the organization operated the locomotive out of Logansport, Indiana for what would become the last Iron Horse Festival. Around this same time, the Federal Railroad Administration enacted new regulations concerning historic steam locomotive operation, which meant additional work was needed on 2716, including new flues and boiler tubes. The historical society decided that any additional restoration work would then be committed to Nickel Plate Road no. 765, which had been static pending a running gear overhaul since 1993. 2716 was returned to the Kentucky Railway Museum shortly thereafter and is now under restoration once again at http://www.kentuckysteam.org
