A day after the Indian government restricted water flow from the Baglihar and Salal dams into the Chenab River— which flows into Pakistan— it abruptly released 28,000 cusecs of water into the river on Tuesday, April 6.

Reports indicate that the sudden surge has triggered flood alerts in several Pakistani districts, including Sialkot, Gujrat, and Head Qadirabad.

This follows a 24-hour blockade that left the Chenab riverbed dry, with eyewitnesses reporting that people were able to walk across the riverbed.
