A DAY IN KYOTO | Fushimi Inari, Nara Park, Great Buddha Hall (10-Days in Japan: Osaka-Kyoto-Tokyo)

Welcome to Day 4 of my 10-day Japan travel series with Traveller’s Bazaar!
I’m Quinn, an architectural journalist based in Dubai, taking you through Osaka, Kyoto, Tokyo, and a bonus stop in Seoul — exploring each city through design, architecture, and immersive lifestyle experiences.

In today’s episode, I hop on the Shinkansen, Japan’s iconic bullet train, and make my way from Osaka to Kyoto, the country’s former imperial capital.
First stop: Fushimi Inari Taisha, home to thousands of brilliant vermilion torii gates that stretch into the mountainside — a place where tradition, architecture, and nature blend seamlessly into one of Japan’s most iconic sights.

Next, I head to Nara Park, where friendly deer roam freely and bow for treats, offering a surreal and heartwarming experience. I wander through the grand wooden gates leading to Todai-ji’s Great Buddha Hall — the world’s largest wooden building and a true architectural marvel housing a towering bronze Buddha.

It’s a day filled with history, spirituality, design, and those magical moments that define Kyoto’s unique soul.

If you missed the earlier episodes, make sure to check out Day 1 and Days 2 & 3 — featuring Osaka Castle, TeamLab Osaka, Universal Studios Japan, Dotonbori, and more.
