Pinching is a simple technique growers use on many different plant species. Also called topping or tipping. It's a process that stops growth & changes the flow of hormones within the plant. By removing the apical bud (the growth tips) you are encouraging the plant to flower. In the case of figs, the fruits are an inside out flower.
