Roman Emperors through a Nineteenth Century lens, with Professor Mary Beard

It’s all too easy to walk past a painting in a gallery without noticing that there’s more than meets the eye. In this talk, Mary invites you to contemplate how Roman emperors are portrayed in 19th century art and demonstrate that these images are edgier and more interesting than we sometimes imagine, raising issues of power, corruption, race and more…
