Ross Douthat, "To Change the Church"
Ross Douthat discusses his book, "To Change the Church", at Politics and Prose on 3/31/18.
Douthat’s critique of Pope Francis and his vision for the Roman Catholic Church considers the Pope’s proposals for change not just in terms of what they will mean for the Church, but for their significance in the larger context of Western civilization. Why should anyone other than Catholics be concerned about whether the divorced and remarried are permitted to take Communion? Douthat, a columnist for The New York Times op-ed page, explains that this and other controversial reforms both divide Catholics and cut the Church off from its traditional roots and also weaken the West at a time when we’re vulnerable to outside attacks from ISIS and Putin as well as to our own internal divisions and self-doubts.
