We noticed that it was taking longer and longer to dry our clothes. The first thing we did was make sure the lint trap was not blocked. And we knew there was gas/flame in the dryer because the clothes were getting hot, they were just still damp (especially towels). So the last resort was to clean the vent pipe.
In our old house the dryer was in the basement and connected to the outside with a flexible hose. In the new house the dryer is upstairs and the exhaust pipe goes through the wall with multiple bends.
Instead of buying a vent cleaning brush, i made one for free by using a toilet snake and some zip ties. Now obviously this is only free if you already have those things in the house. If not, then just buy the $30 brush from Amazon. Another thing you will need is a leaf blower, to blow the dust out while using the brush.
My method and brush worked really well. The only issue i had was feeding the brush in past 15 feet. I think the self-feeding brush would have worked better then trying to push in the homemade brush. But as far as cleaning, the homemade brush did really well, as can be seen from the before and after pictures.
