97-Year-Old Chicago Fan Sees Cubs In World Series For First Time Since 1945
One Chicago Cubs fan has waited 71 years to return to Wrigley Field to watch his beloved team. Jim Schlegel, 97, was at the last World Series appearance of the Cubs in 1945 when they lost to the Detroit Tigers. Schlegel had just gotten back from serving his country in World War II. He's a Pearl Harbor survivor and still has the ticket stubs to his last Wrigley appearance. Schlegel and his son, Bill, attended the game right from the front row.
