Kiribati: Lone Highway Made Safer, Better

Many of ADB's developing member countries (DMCs) are mired in deep-seated governance issues, from poor public services to weak government institutions, from ineffective policies to insufficient institutional capacity. These issues allow corruption to remain pervasive, thriving on weak governance systems and costing the world $3.6 trillion every year. Corruption denies a country the vital resources it needs to uplift the lives of its poorest, most vulnerable, and weaken its institutions. The Worldwide Governance Indicators, a data set of perception-based relative governance performance, says developing Asia and the Pacific continues to lag on governance compared with other regions.
