Keynote: Ali Raza Rizvi (IUCN)
Panelists: Angela Andrade (IUCN-CEM), Michael Beck (TNC), Margarita Caso (INECC, Mexico), Alan Nicol (IWMI), Nathalie Seddon (IIED)
Moderator: Fabrice Renaud (UNU-EHS)

Abstract: Ecosystem-based approaches to address climate change, disaster risk and sustainable development are gaining momentum globally. In some cases, it is however difficult to distinguish between ecosystem-based approaches and “development as usual” or among the different ecosystem-based approaches which can be broadly said to compose the Nature-based solutions (NbS) family. There is a need for more clarity as to what constitutes an ecosystem-based approach and which criteria and standards should be followed when developing such approaches on the ground. Participants should come out with a better understanding of the different ecosystem-based approaches, their linkages, but also where they differ, existing criteria and standards for some of these approaches and where work is in progress for others.
