Texas Toast Egg Bread

Egg Bread for Texas Toast

2 cup milk
¼ cup butter, softened
¼ cup sugar
2 tsp salt
2 tbsp or packages (¼ ounce each) active dry yeast
4 large eggs
7 to 8 cups flour (start with 7)
2 tbsp oil for bowl

Sift your flour. Then add your yeast and set aside.

Take first 4 ingredients heat over med-high heat to warm. Do not boil. Alternately mix eggs and milk mixture into four mixture. Mix on medium speed until form a soft dough.

Turn dough onto a floured surface, knead until smooth and elastic, 6-8 minutes. Place in a oiled bowl, turning once to grease the top. Cover with towel; let rise in warm place until doubled, 1-1/2 to 2 hours.

Punch down dough. Turn onto a lightly floured surface; divide in half then shape and place into loaf pans. Cover with towel; let rise in warm place about 35 minutes. Preheat oven to 375°. Bake for 20 minutes then cover with foil lightly and continue baking for another 15 minutes until golden brown. Total cook time 35 minutes. Remove from pans to wire racks to cool on sides. Rub lightly with oil after about 15 minutes.

Texas Toast Topping

¼ cup melted butter
1 tbsp minced garlic
½ tsp garlic salt
½ cup olive oil
for an extra touch add cilantro flakes or cheese

Brush on thick sliced egg bread and broil until brown.
