Note: I took out the girl getting shot so I wouldn’t be told to Age-Restrict this. I don’t even know why people think a GD video would get taken down, regardless of it’s contents, since in the end, it’s a GD video and Youtube will see it only as that. This level is worth seeing so I cut that part out. The rest isn’t that graphic so it should be ok.
This level is great. Some of Devins best levels are usually his goriest or most unsettling, and this is a good example of that. He is very talented at making arts and themed block designs and it really shows throughout this level. Each part is different but has a similar disturbing feel to it and it keeps the level fresh throughout the entire length. There are also nice details to go with every part, like the flies flying around the rotting waste in the waste part, or the pulsing of the viens in the part with the heart. There’s definitely a lot of care put into it all. I also like some of the usages of foreground objects too, it really gives levels a ton of atmosphere imo. The really respectable thing about the entire level imo is the fact that it goes farther out of the games comfort zone than almost any other level in the game. Devin is one of the only creators to build levels for fun and for his own interests rather than for a rating, which never happens with levels like this that he uploads. Devin has always considered his levels arts and illustrations and never actually levels in the game for the purpose of CP or anything like that. Even though his stuff is normally graphic, it’s a fresh breath of air because this stuff is so rare. No one thinks very highly of gore and stuff sometimes, and no one really supports those kinds of levels in the community all of the time either. But Devin still creates them, and I really enjoy them all for that. His levels are extremely memorable and have a lot of replayability because of how unique they are. They aren’t just new block designs or anything like that, but even more than that. New concepts, new ideas, disturbing imagery that has never been seen in a level, not even in ones like Triple Six. Devin is a really respectable creator for that, and this is overall a fantastic level. (And so is Man Man)
The gameplay in this level is enjoyable overall. It’s pretty satisfying to get past the hard parts and it’s very unique gameplay overall. That being said, it is very unbalanced. The wave and ball at the metal factory section are very tough and carry out a lot of the level’s difficulty. It can get frustrating dying at that one section a bunch, especially when it’s nearly halfway into the level. The ball also has some very tight timings, especially when you are the big ball, because there is a timings that you have to time very precisely, or else you usually hit the edge of it and die. The end of the level is also way too chokeable because of the transitions between game modes, and the cutscene transition from the UFO to the ending gives you little time to react to what comes up next. These things made the level a little frustrating when trying to beat it, but I still consider it pretty fun if you don’t get my shit luck (2 last UFO deaths and 4-5 last part deaths). The gameplay is still very unique in many parts, like the swing copter UFO and the part where you have to use yellow orbs that spell out a word.
To conclude, I must say, this along with many other levels of Devins are really starting to appeal to me. Devin often goes out of the comfort zone of the rest of the GD community, sometimes to extreme lengths, with such great execution they’re almost hard to hate on sometimes. This won’t get rated most likely, but it’s worth appreciating for how much of a bold step it takes. This and Man Man are really something else.
