Easy 10-Minute Tteokbokki with Flour Rice Cakes!#cooking #food #spicy #koreanfood #quickrecipe

Spicy Korean Tteokbokki (with Flour Rice Cakes)
Serves approximately 2–3 people

Ingredients:
• 577g (1.27 lb) flour rice cakes (milgaru tteok)
• 253g (0.56 lb) Korean fish cakes (eomuk/odeng), sliced
• 1 tablespoon soy sauce
• 2 tablespoons sugar
• 3 tablespoons gochujang (Korean red chili paste)
(Taste your gochujang. If it’s very salty, add 1 more tablespoon of sugar.)
• 1 tablespoon corn syrup (or oligo syrup)

• 1 and half cup of water
• Perilla leaves (kkaennip), as desired
(If unavailable, substitute with sliced green onions.)
• Optional: sliced cabbage or onion
(If adding a lot of vegetables, add 1 more tablespoon of gochujang.)
• Optional: sesame seeds for garnish
Instructions:
1. In a medium pot, bring 500g (about 2 cups) of water to a boil.
2. Add gochujang and stir until fully dissolved. Then add sugar and soy sauce. Stir to combine.
3. Add the sliced fish cakes to the pot. Cook until they puff up slightly.
4. Once the fish cakes begin to swell, add the flour rice cakes.
If you’d like vegetables, add a small handful of sliced cabbage or onion.
(Note: If you add a generous amount of vegetables, add one more spoonful of gochujang.)
5. Let everything simmer over medium heat, allowing the sauce to coat the rice cakes and fish cakes evenly. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking.
6. Once the rice cakes and fish cakes are soft and chewy, place perilla leaves (or green onion slices) on top.
7. Turn off the heat and sprinkle sesame seeds over the dish before serving.
