Pink Military Stand Alone Live at Eric's 22nd March 1979

This was another John Peel introduction - Pink Military. They came from the Liverpool scene of the late 70s which revolved around Eric's and included Big In Japan (Jayne Casey, Budgie, Ian Broudie, Holly Johnson), Echo & The Bunnymen, The Teardrop Explodes and Pete Burns. I bought their 1980 album 'Do Animals Believe In God?' and it remains a favourite. The songs have such an eclectic mix of styles.

In 2000 I decided to create a simple website dedicated to Pink Military and it attracted fans from around the world, showing that the band had an enthusiastic following all those years later. Jayne Casey answered some questions for me for the website, former members of the band saw the site and contacted me and fans provided pictures and articles to share on the site. After 20 years it is still there - http://pinkmilitary.co.uk - looking a bit dated but still functioning.

In this live recording from 1979 the band are quite loud and raw and they play early, quite different, versions of some of the songs which would later appear on the album.
