This time I came across a WW2 German Shovel Cover for restoration. This case lay in a German dugout for more than 80 years. Judging by the existing mark, this case was produced in 1941.
The condition of the leather was unsatisfactory - it was hard and curled. Some elements were missing. The metal rivets have rotted. I had to use all my knowledge of leather restoration to make a cover for a shovel from petrified pieces of leather.
Unfortunately, this case cannot be used for its intended purpose, since the leather shrinks over time, but still, as a historical artifact, the case will take its rightful place in my museum.
