A Tribute to the Legendary Al Osborne
Many in the Anderson community came forward to express what Sr. Associate Dean Al Osborne has meant to them. Here are a few facts about “Big Al:”
• He served as senior associate dean since 2003 and oversaw the Office of Alumni Relations, Office of Development and UCLA Anderson Executive Education program, among others.
• He founded the Harold and Pauline Price Center for Entrepreneurship & Innovation in 1987; the center celebrates its 35th anniversary this year. Gifts to the Osborne Fund in Entrepreneurship & Innovation will allow the Price Center to continue to serve as a catalyst for innovative program offerings in the future.
• In 1990, he started the Management Development for Entrepreneurs (MDE) program, and since then, 1,500 business owners and managers have graduated. The program focuses on minority- and women-owned enterprises.
• He served as a faculty director of the UCLA offering of the Entrepreneurship Bootcamp for Veterans with Disabilities since 2008. It has provided training to 275 veterans who are launching or seeking to grow their own businesses.
• He launched the Deutschman Venture Fellows Program in 1980 to assist Anderson students in securing internships in the fields of venture capital and private equity, and/or in venture-backed portfolio companies.
• He served as an assistant dean, associate dean, senior associate dean and interim dean during his time at Anderson.
• The Osborne MBA Fellowship was created in Osborne’s honor to support underrepresented MBA students at Anderson, in recognition of his interest in equity, diversity and inclusion in business.
• Thanks to his starting the Head Start Management Fellows Program at Anderson 30 years ago, 600 leaders of Head Start early childhood agencies have received foundational training in strategy, leadership and management, enabling them to enhance the delivery of services in their communities. Nationally, Head Start serves 1 million children and their families each year.
