The Tucker 48 had a windshield designed to eject on impact, a padded dashboard built to absorb a crash, and a headlight that physically tracked the road. Preston Tucker had 183,000 reservations. The largest manufacturing floor in the world was already running.

Then came the federal investigation. The Senate hearings. The seized factory.

Fifty-one cars were built. Forty-seven survive today - each worth three million dollars.
