Java architecture is designed to provide platform independence, security, and high performance by using a layered execution model. A Java program is written in source code and compiled by the Java compiler into bytecode, which is not specific to any operating system. This bytecode is executed by the Java Virtual Machine (JVM), which acts as an intermediary between the program and the underlying hardware. The Java architecture mainly consists of the Java Development Kit (JDK) for developing applications, the Java Runtime Environment (JRE) for running them, and the JVM for executing bytecode. The JVM includes components such as the class loader, bytecode verifier, runtime memory areas, and execution engine, which together ensure secure, efficient, and consistent execution. This architecture enables Java’s key principle of “Write Once, Run Anywhere,” making Java applications portable across different platforms.
