Hime Cut Guide: Creating the Japanese Cut

HIME CUT is a traditional Japanese cut characterized by straight side locks, usually chin-length, and a straight fringe. The rest of the hair is typically kept long and straightened. This cut can suit any face shape by adjusting the length of the side locks. In other words, by cutting them to different lengths, the hairstyle can be adapted to suit individual facial features. In the video, the model has an oval face shape, which any haircut would suit. Additionally, when the hair is gathered in a ponytail, the Hime Haircut looks like a bob.

In Japanese, "hime" means "princess". During the Heian period, women turning 16 received this haircut in a "binsogi" ceremony, symbolizing coming of age. This hairstyle became popular again in Japan in the 1970s when singer Megumi Asaoka made it her signature style.

A key aspect of the hime cut is always the presence of a noticeable gap between the side locks and the rest of the hair.
