FMX Contenders So Far-
Arenacross brings together top-flight Professional racers from across the globe, the UK's most-promising Youth pilots aged from seven to 18 years old and a hand-picked selection of some of the world's maddest, baddest Freestyle Motocross stars. Right here's where you'll find some extra info on the riders who we're tipping to be our FMX Contenders - we'll be regularly updating this section as more riders sign up so keep checking back...
Edgar Torronteras
A bona fide Freestyle Motocross legend, Spaniard Edgar 'ET' Torronteras

Chris BIrch
Arguably the biggest hitter on the UK Freestyle Motocross scene, Chris 'Swampy' Birch divides his time between London and his FMX compound in Southern Spain...

Jamie Squibb

Dan Whitby
Don't let his down-to-earth demeanour fool you, Dan Whitby is a hardcore FMX addict who's showcased his skills to Arab sheiks, Russian oligarchs and the English aristocracy...

Dave Wiggins
"Go big or go home -- or go to hospital!" Dave Wiggins has a pretty simple gameplan and with his designer clothes and cool moves he's at home on the ramps and the dancefloor!

With Freestyle Motocross the competition takes place 40 feet above the track with riders hitting purpose-built ramps and then attempting to out-do each other as they whip and back-flip 100kg motorcycles in a jaw-dropping display of aerial gymnastics. Once considered MX mavericks, freestylers are now highly-paid sporting stars who compete in year-round world tour events such as the X Games and Red Bull X-Fighters.

FMX is a major ingredient of the awesome Arenacross recipe and at each and every round we'll be holding a series of jump-offs to determine which one of our freestyle athletes can throw out the best whip and stick the best trick as well a frenzied freestyle free-for-all when they'll really let loose and let it all hang out to keep our audience on the edge of their seats! And listen out for a cry of "TRAIN" before they hit the ramp in close succession for a mind-blowing session of big-air insanity!

Rider Gear

FMX riders typically use much of the same riding gear as MX racers. This includes a helmet, goggles, gloves, boots, jersey,a chest protector and MX pants. They may supplement this with elbow and knee pads. Riders may also choose to wear 'body armor' Travis Pastrana "holy grail of FMX". It was a trick that every rider considered impossible and was considered more appropriate in video games than in real life. Speculation of the possibility began with the Motocross film "Children of a Metal God" featuring riders attempting the trick into water off a modified ramp. Also it had been done many times on BMX bikes, and FMX riders were using tricks from BMX riders, such as when Travis Pastrana performed an Indian Air, originally from TJ Lavin, a BMXer
In 2002, Caleb Wyatt (born January 1, 1976) is the first person to ever perform a successful backflip on a large motorcycle. On April 25, 2002 at the Rogue Valley Motocross track (RVMX), Caleb Wyatt executed the backflip. A photo of Caleb was taken by the RVMX track owner to document the event and can be seen on his website.

2002 saw the backflip taken to X Games glory. Travis Pastrana and Mike Metzger were both capable doing flips off ramps. Kenny Bartram was still learning flips, doing them off the backsides of dirt landings, much like Hart in the 2000 Gravity Games. The unthinkable had become reality; a backflip was now common place in freestyle competition. Mike Metzger had achieved a back-to-back backflip, which won him Freestyle Gold, at Summer X Games 8.

'No Footers', 'HeelClickers', and 'One Handed' Backflips.
