Portable Sawmill a Smart Investment for a Small Farm? Featuring Sheraton Park Farms
Is a Portable Sawmill a Smart Investment for a Small Farm? | Featuring Sheraton Park Farms
Tonight on the Forestry & Sawmill Round Table LIVE, we’re joined by Sheraton Park Farms @SheratonParkFarms to dive into one of the biggest questions small farmers and landowners are asking today:
Is a portable sawmill actually a smart investment for a small farm?
Many people see a sawmill as just a tool for cutting lumber—but on a working farm, it can become much more than that. From building barns and livestock shelters to fencing, repairs, and everyday infrastructure, a portable sawmill like the Wood-Mizer LT40 can completely change how a farm operates.
We’ll be talking about real-world, practical use—not theory:
How a portable sawmill fits into a small farm system
Whether it actually saves money over time
Building farm infrastructure from your own timber
What surprised our guests after owning a sawmill
The pros and cons of owning a mill on a working farm
Turning trees into usable value instead of waste
Whether a sawmill should be considered essential farm equipment
This is a live round table discussion with multiple sawmill operators and landowners, so expect real experiences, different opinions, and plenty of viewer interaction.

We may bring viewers on LIVE through StreamYard to join the discussion
Whether you're a farmer, homesteader, or sawyer, this conversation is for you
Featured Guest: Sheraton Park Farms
Equipment Highlight: Wood-Mizer LT40 Portable Sawmill
QUESTION FOR VIEWERS:
If you owned a portable sawmill, what would you build first—barn, fence, shop, or something else?
Subscribe for monthly Forestry & Sawmill Round Table LIVE streams, sawmill tips, homestead building ideas, and real-world forestry discussions from small landowners across the USA.
About the RoundTable:
The Forestry & Sawmill RoundTable brings together sawyers and creators from across the USA to talk tools, timber, and the real-life side of working the land.
Our 2026 theme focuses on American-made and small American businesses, highlighting people building something with their own two hands.
Join the Conversation LIVE:
We want to hear from you in the chat!
What would YOU want to know before starting a sawmill business?
This Show: July 18
Next Show; Augest 15
Time: 7:00 PM Central
Live with sawyers from coast to coast across the USA
This Month’s Panel:
Tim & Rick – @Twobrothersoutdoors
John – @DANG--
Paul & Andy - @SouthernAdirondackOutdoors
Erik & Matthew – @BeardedLumber
Neil – @RiversidewoodFarm-vq3bl
Craig – @thekiltedsawyer
Our Equipment:
Across 7 sawmilling operations, we run:
TimberKing 2020TW
Hud-Son Homesteader HFE-30
Hud-Son Oscar 330 Pro
Wood-Mizer LT70 (electric), LT35, LT40 Wide, LT50, LT15
We use everything from cant hooks and ATVs to log arches, compact tractors, trucks, and trailers—and some of us take our mills directly to the logs.
What Makes This Show Different:
We’re all sawyers—but we all do it differently.
Some sell lumber, some sell services, some do both.
Some are hobbyists, some are production-focused.
Manual or hydraulic—we bring different perspectives and aren’t afraid to share them.
That’s what makes this conversation valuable.
We had a great turnout and a lot of questions last month, and we’re looking forward to even more this time.
Whether you’re a seasoned sawyer or just getting started—or even if you don’t have sawdust in your veins yet—you’re welcome here.
Join us live every 3rd Saturday of the month!
