Jack Moore, Hong Kong voice actor
Jack Keith Lesley Moore (May 5th, 1942 - February 2nd, 2002) was a Canadian journalist, announcer, host, food critic, film critic, and voice actor. As a child, Jack would grow up with writing and later started his career in journalism while working for the Vancouver Sun as a teenager. After working for the Vancouver Sun, Jack would travel to New York in order to find more work as a journalist, which would be followed up with him moving to Hong Kong in 1968. In Hong Kong, Jack would take up a job at the South China Morning Post, of which he would later be the head entertainment writer of.
While in Hong Kong, Jack would somehow hear word of Axis International, a dubbing group run by Radio Television Hong Kong DJ Ted Thomas, needing voice actors from North America. Jack would soon join Axis, likely sometime in the early 1960s, where he would typically be casted to dub bit parts and leads. Also while working at the South China Morning Post, Jack would write some of the first major news articles in Hong Kong about Bruce Lee (Including an interview between Jack and Lee), several of which have appeared cited in publications, as well as film reviews, food reviews, and news articles. His film reviews in the South China Morning Post would prove to be particularly popular, and so would his writing style, as his book A Guide To Hong Kong’s Saloons And Bawdy Houses would become a bestseller and his film reviews would lead to him hosting his own film review show that aired throughout the early 1970s.
In part due to a failed marriage and health problems caused by drinking and smoking, Jack would move back to Vancouver in 1972. Back in Vancouver, Jack would find work as a radio host and worked as a journalist for The Westender and The Vancouver Courier, the latter of which he became the overseas journalist for, which would be the reason why he would move back and forth between Hong Kong and Vancouver during the late 80s and 1990s. After being plagued by worsening health problems caused by drinking and smoking for most of his life, Jack would enter hospice care some time in 2001 before passing away in February of 2002.
