Minn Kota Ultrex trolling motor repair, the Minn Kota Ultrex Circuit boards going bad is mostly blamed on that or the foot control sensor on the Minn Kota Ultrex foot pedal.

My trolling motor is still under warranty. However at the moment, Johnson Outdoors is closed til further notice due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

I was fishing Thursday on a private lake with my son River and my friend and my only full time assistant who has worked for me for 8 years. While fishing with 20 mph West winds and fishing on the west side of the lake, I turned the Minn Kota Ultex right and the left fast and heard a pop or thump. The Ultrex Power steer was gone. My first thought was circuit board or something came unplugged. Well something did come unplugged but on the wrong end.

Here is a video of fixing the steering module assembly on a 2019 Minn Kota Ultrex 80/45 that I believe sometimes the issue is the steering module when it is normally thought to be in the Ultrex Foot Pedal being the foot sensor or the circuit board.

Note: this is only an option when there are no other options. Minn Kota Trolling Motors have been the only choice for me for almost 20 years. I am very familiar with trouble shooting and fixing pretty much anything from Open Array Radar Antennas, wiring, low and high voltage systems, marine motors and automotive. If Minn Kota was open I would have sent it in or got the part to save me time.

The current situation and the fact I CAN take my 4 year old son fishing on private lakes getting him addicted to fishing and out of the house away from the girls and spend valuable time with him. I had to get this fixed asap or I was going to buy another Minn Kota Ultrex and use the one I have as a spare once it is fixed since I usually keep one around but it is the Fortex and once you use the Minn Kota Ultrex Spot Lock you get spoiled.

With any new technology the bugs get worked out quick if the company makes good products. Minn Kota is a great product and fairly easy to repair or fix the components of them if you are good with tools, troubleshooting, taking things apart and reassembling them correctly you can make this repair yourself if the issue arises or you can just send it into a Minn Kota Authorized dealer. Mine is Kels Rod and Reel in Casselberry Florida. They repair rods, reels, trolling motors, down riggers etc... They did not have the parts since the closure due to the coronavirus.

The tools you will need are 1/4" allen key, a few different number phillips heads, a few sizes of flatheads, solder iron, wire strippers, dikes, needle nose and regular pliers.

Zip ties, towels or rags, good lighting and a flashlight.
