Jephthah,
Judges 11:29–40.
Summary:
Jephthah was a judge of Israel.
He made a vow to God that if God gave him victory over the Ammonites, he would offer as a burnt offering whatever came out of his house to greet him.
When he returned victorious, his only daughter came out dancing with tambourines to greet him.
He was heartbroken but told her about the vow.
She asked for two months to mourn her virginity, then returned, and he fulfilled his vow.
The story caused much debate but I know she was dedicated to lifelong service to God and remained unmarried.
