Exploring Buckow and Schermützelsee in Brandenburg, Day Trip Just Outside of Berlin

Buckow is a town in the Märkisch-Oderland district in Brandenburg and is about 45 km east of Berlin. It’s a pretty spot which has a number of restaurants, cafes and bakeries so in the summertime and under normal conditions, it must get pretty busy.

In this video we walk around Buckow a little and then head to Schermützelsee for a proper hike. Schermützelsee is a lake in Brandenburg. A good walk with some great views and places to stop by the water, but there are also many private residences or private areas along the lake so there's quite a lot of walking in the forest away from the water’s edge.

Buckow has strong links to Kneipp cure. The five elements of his therapy are water, exercise, nutrition, medical plants and order of life. So at the heart of the cure is simplicity and naturalness. The water part intrigues me and near the start of the video I show a bar in the stream which you walk around as a treatment and also another bar in the nearby lake. Treading water is a big part of the treatment but so is breathing exercises, air baths (think that’s getting naked outside for a bit), sun baths and doing things that distract the mind. But also there’s dew walking - walking through the dewy meadow immediately after getting up, barefoot walking - walking as often as possible through meadows, sand and natural surfaces without shoes and socks plus also snow walking - walking barefoot in freshly fallen snow, never stopping. All sounds good to me.
