Benefit–Cost Ratio Explained | Highway Project Example (Easy Method) #BenefitCostRatio

In this video, I explain the Benefit–Cost (B/C) Ratio method using a real highway widening project. This method is widely used in civil engineering and project management to evaluate whether a project is economically viable.

You will learn:

What is Benefit–Cost Ratio (B/C)
How to calculate present value of benefits and costs
How road user cost, accident cost, and maintenance cost affect benefits
Step-by-step B/C ratio calculation
How to take the final decision

Key Concept:
B/C Ratio = Present Value of Benefits ÷ Present Value of Costs

If B/C more than 1 → Project is acceptable
If B/C less than 1 → Project is not viable

In this example, we calculate the total benefits from savings in user cost and accident cost, subtract maintenance cost, apply discounting, and compare with total project cost.
