Lawrenceville Police will provide an update Friday morning after a 15-year-old was charged with murder for allegedly hijacking an Uber driver's car and shooting the driver dead.

The incident occurred early in the morning on New Year's Day in Lawrenceville. Around 5:20 a.m., officers with the Lawrenceville Police Department responded to the 600 block of Groveland Parkway regarding a person down.

When they arrived, they found a man dead who suffered at least one gunshot wound.

The update Friday morning is expected at 11 a.m.

Officers have obtained Ring doorbell video footage from a nearby camera showing a black SUV stopping in the road, dropping off the victim, and leaving the area.

According to police, it was discovered that the black SUV belonged to the victim through the use of investigative technology, and it was later determined that the victim, a 58-year-old Uber driver, was the victim of a carjacking, where he was later shot and killed.
